We're going to Iceland!

Welcome back! This is the first time we've opened Blogger in about 3 years, and we found 2 blog posts in draft from 2018. We went ahead and just added pictures and published them. They're just bullet point notes from New Zealand that nobody will understand, but they make us happy.

The past few days have been a combination celebrating Kaylea's birthday and trying to make sure we had everything ready for the trip. Saturday, we had a failed attempt at skydiving. Failed in the sense that it was too cloudy, not that we didn't survive. Then we threw together a last minute shindig with some friends. We did some last minute shopping on Sunday.

LIFE UPDATE:

We have a dog! Her name is Marvyn and she is a two-year-old English Springer Spaniel. She's basically our child and we're obsessed with her.

Marvyn doesn't do so well with travel, so Monday we sent her to say with her grandmother (Nonni) for the next few weeks. We already miss her very much and, based off the picture Nonni sent, she misses us too.

We spent the rest of the day on hold with several airlines while we tried to cram as many clothes into our bags as possible. For whatever reason, Kaylea was unable to check in for our flight. Aaron was good, but Kaylea was a no go. Nobody seemed to know what the problem was. After about 4 hours, the best answer we had was "YOU NEED TO GET TO THE AIRPORT 4 HOURS BEFORE THE FLIGHT BECAUSE THEY MIGHT NOT LET YOU ON AND WE DON'T KNOW WHY". So we did that, and it seemed to work.

We realized at 1 am last night that Kaylea's bag was way over the weight limit, and Aaron's bag was at capacity, so Aaron had to go get a new bag the second that Target opened this morning. He was the first person in, and the first person to check out. It's huge. It's pretty. It glides. We were cutting it close, but it was totally worth it.

So. Iceland for our 5 year anniversary?

Why in the heck are we going to the land of ice and fire instead of getting some R&R on some beach somewhere down south? As Kaylea put it: we'll rest when we're dead. We've managed to book ourselves a manic and frigid road trip around the entirety of Iceland. We're talking glaciers, caves, volcanoes, waterfalls, and tectonic plates.

We'll give you more updates as we go. We'll be spending a lot of time driving, so we should have ample time to keep the blog updated.

No promises though.

Day 9 & 10: Ice Ice Baby

Get ready for a two-dayer! Day 9: Like every other blog post before this one, we woke up. The breakfast at Fosshotel wasn't very substantial, and the options were pretty limited. The continental breakfast was a few slices of cheese, meat, and cucumbers. Kaylea had some lackluster pancakes. We had a glacier hike to get to, so we ate as much as we could. After that, we spent a little time working on the blog and getting ready before we made our way out. We put on all of our thermal gear, and a bunch of layers, and hit the road.   We were only about 20 minutes away, but 20 minutes in snow gear in the car gets pretty hot. We pulled up to the meeting spot for our tour, and our guide was just wearing a long sleeve shirt. We got out and asked how cold it's going to be on the glacier, and she said "It's like this. Maybe just bring a light jacket." So we had to take off a bunch of layers in the parking lot. We met some of our fellow tourists, and hopped in a van to head to

Day 4 - Nations Divided by A Common Language

We got a pretty late start this morning. We had a lot planned for the day, but nothing was too time sensitive, so we got some much needed rest. However, it wasn't the best sleep of all time. The walls here are paper thin, and people were constantly letting this door right outside our room slam shut. Also, Aaron smacked his head on the bunk bed during the night but has no recollection of it.  Once we got up and going, the hostel was pretty much empty. Or rather, empty of kids, and filled with the cleaning crew, who didn't seem to like us being there. After they wouldn't let us into the kitchen to fill up our water bottles, it dawned on us that we're having a little bit of trouble communicating. First thing we did was head to the Tower of London. We didn't get to go inside the first time we visited, so we decided to go back. It was a pretty great museum (K - "meh"). It started to get really crowded towards the end, and the line to see the crown jewels wa
