Day 39 Vatican City

We decided to wake up early this morning and make our way to the Vatican: Home to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Since it's famous for it's long lines and wait times, we wanted to make sure we got there super early. We planned on waking up around 7:30, getting ready, making some sandwiches, and riding the metro to the holy city. We managed to do all of that except wake up early. We woke up late, but we had read online that there was usually a lull around lunch time. So, we decided to hit up the Vatican shortly after 1. The metro ride was the most crowded either of us had ever experienced. We've never been touching that many people at the same time. Like everyone on that train, we felt a little violated, but it was good training for the swarms of people we were about to have to deal with. Day 55, 56, 57 The Arch and Deep Water Soloing

We had lots to do on day 55, and we needed to get out of the hotel early in order to get everything done. By 1:30 pm, we were ready to go. Our parking garage was crowded and confusing. Aaron had to do a crazy 9 point turn with Kaylea standing outside of the car to guide him out of the tiny tiny parking space. With only an inch to spare, we managed to get out of the space. But it wasn't over. It took us several U-turns and a lot of frustration to get out of the garage. All in all, it probably took us 15-20 minutes to get the car out of there. Once we were on the highway, everything was fine. Well, kind of. Aaron couldn't read the street signs, or any of the indicators inside the car. Other than that, everything was fine... Can you see the concentration/fear in his eyes? Our first stop for the day was Cuevas del Drach (Dragon Caves). It's a small system of caves and it's one of the "must see" things on the island. Day 34, 35 Acropolis and Come on British Museum!

With the exception of broken wi-fi, our first full day in Athens started out well. We had heard of this thing called the Acropolis, and decided to check it out. Luckily, it turned out to be a short walk from our hostel, and the 12 Euro entrance fee also gets you into 7 other attractions within walking distance. That's less than two Euros per attraction. Seemed like a pretty great deal. The Acropolis is a large ancient citadel situated on the top of a hill in Athens and is home to some of the most iconic pieces of architecture in history. Arguably, the most famous piece of architecture is the Parthenon. It was unreal. While we didn't get to actually go inside the Parthenon, we got to walk around it. Surprisingly, there was a lot of construction going on. It was all apart of the restoration efforts that have been going on since the 1980's.
