Tying the Loose Ends

It's almost 1 in the morning, and we're still finishing up. Our flight isn't until 5 pm tomorrow, so we'll have plenty of time to finish up packing and cleaning before we have to get to the airport.

This weekend was spent saying goodbyes to families. There were some tears and  a lot of hugs.
Kaylea spent Saturday working at Skyline Trapeze and came back sunburned, making it her fourth consecutive weekend with pink shoulders. After that it was a rush to get to Cleburne to watch her dad and brother team rope. Her dad won a buckle.

Sunday morning we had a birthday breakfast at a cafe since we'll be gone for Kaylea's birthday. The food was meh, but it was fun. Kaylea got flowers, a balloon, and an awesome cupcake.

After breakfast, it was another rush to get Kaylea to work at Skyline. I went to visit, and her boss let me have a few swings! Then Kaylea went to work at Summit while I went to my parents. Kaylea came by after she got off work, and we had dinner. After some hugs, we had to drop her car off at her aunt's in Anna. Finally made it home around 11:30 to finish off another super crazy weekend.

Saying goodbye at work was a bit strange. Since I'm coming back, it feels like I'm going on summer vacation. I haven't had one of those since I was 17! The third of my neurons I usually have dedicated to thinking about work suddenly had nothing to do. I found myself intermittently clapping and yelling "woo!" for several hours after leaving the office.

After I got off work, we went to the gym, and said goodbye to all our climbing friends. A few of them will be moving away while we're traveling, so some of the goodbyes were a little strange. "Oh wait! This is the last time I'll see you like... for a long time!... It's been real."

After climbing, we had some sushi with our friend who will be driving us to the airport, and keeping an eye on our apartment. Who doesn't like dinner with friends? It's going to be hard to go without Mr. Sushi and Thai Star for the next few months.

For now, we desperately need to get some rest. We've got some long flights ahead of us.

Till next time!

Day 9 & 10: Ice Ice Baby

Get ready for a two-dayer! Day 9: Like every other blog post before this one, we woke up. The breakfast at Fosshotel wasn't very substantial, and the options were pretty limited. The continental breakfast was a few slices of cheese, meat, and cucumbers. Kaylea had some lackluster pancakes. We had a glacier hike to get to, so we ate as much as we could. After that, we spent a little time working on the blog and getting ready before we made our way out. We put on all of our thermal gear, and a bunch of layers, and hit the road.   We were only about 20 minutes away, but 20 minutes in snow gear in the car gets pretty hot. We pulled up to the meeting spot for our tour, and our guide was just wearing a long sleeve shirt. We got out and asked how cold it's going to be on the glacier, and she said "It's like this. Maybe just bring a light jacket." So we had to take off a bunch of layers in the parking lot. We met some of our fellow tourists, and hopped in a van to head to...

Day 4 - Nations Divided by A Common Language

We got a pretty late start this morning. We had a lot planned for the day, but nothing was too time sensitive, so we got some much needed rest. However, it wasn't the best sleep of all time. The walls here are paper thin, and people were constantly letting this door right outside our room slam shut. Also, Aaron smacked his head on the bunk bed during the night but has no recollection of it.  Once we got up and going, the hostel was pretty much empty. Or rather, empty of kids, and filled with the cleaning crew, who didn't seem to like us being there. After they wouldn't let us into the kitchen to fill up our water bottles, it dawned on us that we're having a little bit of trouble communicating. First thing we did was head to the Tower of London. We didn't get to go inside the first time we visited, so we decided to go back. It was a pretty great museum (K - "meh"). It started to get really crowded towards the end, and the line to see the crown jewels wa...

Day 31 Deep Water Soloing

We woke up this morning still tired from yesterday's climbing. Today was our day to try out some deep water soloing. For the non-climbers out there, that's rock climbing with no rope above deep water. When you're ready to get down, you jump. If you're slip, you fall into the water. It's pretty straight forward, but it's not without it's dangers. We had been warned of people breaking their backs by hitting the water wrong, and large chunks of rock blowing off the side of the cliff. But this is something we've wanted to try for a long time. Watching the deep water soloing in the movie King Lines was one of the things that inspired Aaron to climb in the first place. Of course early in the morning, the thought of canceling sounded pretty appealing, but no! It was finally happening. We ate some breakfast and packed our gear. It was about a 20 minute walk to our meeting point. We walked up to a small sail boat and met our 3 guides. About 5 minutes later, one...
