UK Day 2 : British Museum / Kings Cross / Concert

We woke up a little late. We ate breakfast outside at a place called Salt and Pepper. It was only a short walk away from our hotel, and right next to the British Museum of Natural History. We didn't want to spend all day at the museum. The plan was to get in, see some Egyptian stuff, see some Grecko-Roman stuff, and get out. But when we walked in, we saw an interesting exhibit called Feminine Power: The Devine to the Demonic (or something like that). So we paid to go through it, and it was worth it. Some really old art in there. We got to the Egyptian & Roman stuff, and Aaron accidentally recreated some photos from 2015 again.

Enough about the Museum. We're trying to keep these short. Next up was Kings Cross. There wasn't really anything interesting at Kings Cross, it was just the station that was closest to the place we stayed at last time we were here. It's always a little weird revisiting places. We tried to go to platform 9 and 3/4, but there was a HUGE line. There was also a little Harry Potter store that definitely wasn't there last time.

After a little debate about directions, we managed to walk back to the old Hostel, which isn't a hostel anymore. A security guard stopped us from going in. It's private property now, or government property. The guard was a little confusing, but basically we couldn't go in, but he was nice. We told him about our first stay, and he told us about the rennovations, and all the things that are still there, and all the things that weren't.

Ok. Short blog Posts. We went to a concert. It was Half Alive and 21 Pilots at a place called 02 Academy Brixton. It took about 20 minutes to get there. Doors were at 7, or so we thought. We got there at about 7, and the end of the line was 3 blocks away. The people behind us in the giant line had bought their tickets a year before the show. It was sold out, so they were surprised we bought our tickets the night before. There were probably about 5000 people in the building. By the time we made it in, we had missed Half Alive, but 21 pilots was a great show!

Portugal Day 1: Rain Delay

We were ready. Bags packed. House clean. Bedsheets changed. Floors vacuumed. The kind of pre-vacation preparedness that makes you feel like you might finally be becoming real adults. We were on time. But alas, the winds were not in our favor. Quite literally. Storms rolled in from the west right as we were heading to the airport. Somehow, we still made it there in mostly light sprinkles and even managed to get from the parking garage to the terminal without getting rained on. Check-in was easy. Security didn’t even pull Aaron aside for additional screening, which honestly felt suspiciously lucky. That was about where our luck ran out. To preface all of this: our flight to Lisbon had a 65-minute layover in DC. It was already going to be tight. Once we got to the airline lounge, we quickly realized we might be in trouble. The place was packed with stressed-out people staring at their phones, pacing around, and loudly explaining their travel disasters to anyone within earshot. Apparently ...

Day 39 Vatican City

We decided to wake up early this morning and make our way to the Vatican: Home to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Since it's famous for it's long lines and wait times, we wanted to make sure we got there super early. We planned on waking up around 7:30, getting ready, making some sandwiches, and riding the metro to the holy city. We managed to do all of that except wake up early. We woke up late, but we had read online that there was usually a lull around lunch time. So, we decided to hit up the Vatican shortly after 1. The metro ride was the most crowded either of us had ever experienced. We've never been touching that many people at the same time. Like everyone on that train, we felt a little violated, but it was good training for the swarms of people we were about to have to deal with. We arrived at the outer wall of the Vatican and saw the line. It looked massive, but we weren't too disappointed. We had mentally prepared for the lines, and on the ...
