Day 10: "Meh"na Lisa

We have officially woken up late every day in Paris. Don't judge us. We're walking like 20 miles a day. Well, more like 9, but we need the sleep. Our only plan for the day was to see the Louvre. With only a semester of Art History between us, neither of us are big into art. The only noteworthy pieces both of us knew about were the Mona Lisa and the Winged Victory of the Samothrace sculpture. Here's the Mona Lisa, in all it's glory!

The End

Nah. Just kidding. The Louvre was massive, and gorgeous. It was also stuffy, crowded, and hot. There's way too much to see in a day, and like the Pantheon, all of the information was in French. There was a lot of wandering around saying "That looks cool. I wonder what it is." Honestly, if you're looking for a meaningful and informative Louvre experience, invest in the audio-guide. Also, it might help to buy the multiple day pass and break up your visit. We were easily overwhelmed, trying to find our way through the maze of rooms and hoards of meandering museum-goers. Needless to say, we did not spend the entire day at the famous museum.

From there we walked the Champs-Élysées, the most famous street in Paris. From the street, you can see multiple monuments and famous buildings. We walked with the intention of bathrooms, food, and Mad Max. Public bathrooms required fees, all restaurants on the Champs-Élysées were overpriced, and Mad Max isn't out yet, so we ended up walking to Louis Vuitton to take pictures for Kaylea's mom and aunt.

By 2:00, our exhaustion was overtaking our curiosity and we decided it was time to head back to the apartment to prepare for tomorrow's departure. We stopped at the Monoprix for the last time to buy snacks and dinner. The rest of the day was spent sampling a cheese assortment with a baguette, napping, cooking pasta, and planning our next two destinations.  Now it is time to pack and sleep. We actually have to get up early tomorrow to turn in Virginie's keys and make our train.

Tomorrow, we write from Munich!

Au revoir!

Day 9 & 10: Ice Ice Baby

Get ready for a two-dayer! Day 9: Like every other blog post before this one, we woke up. The breakfast at Fosshotel wasn't very substantial, and the options were pretty limited. The continental breakfast was a few slices of cheese, meat, and cucumbers. Kaylea had some lackluster pancakes. We had a glacier hike to get to, so we ate as much as we could. After that, we spent a little time working on the blog and getting ready before we made our way out. We put on all of our thermal gear, and a bunch of layers, and hit the road.   We were only about 20 minutes away, but 20 minutes in snow gear in the car gets pretty hot. We pulled up to the meeting spot for our tour, and our guide was just wearing a long sleeve shirt. We got out and asked how cold it's going to be on the glacier, and she said "It's like this. Maybe just bring a light jacket." So we had to take off a bunch of layers in the parking lot. We met some of our fellow tourists, and hopped in a van to head to...

Day 39 Vatican City

We decided to wake up early this morning and make our way to the Vatican: Home to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Since it's famous for it's long lines and wait times, we wanted to make sure we got there super early. We planned on waking up around 7:30, getting ready, making some sandwiches, and riding the metro to the holy city. We managed to do all of that except wake up early. We woke up late, but we had read online that there was usually a lull around lunch time. So, we decided to hit up the Vatican shortly after 1. The metro ride was the most crowded either of us had ever experienced. We've never been touching that many people at the same time. Like everyone on that train, we felt a little violated, but it was good training for the swarms of people we were about to have to deal with. We arrived at the outer wall of the Vatican and saw the line. It looked massive, but we weren't too disappointed. We had mentally prepared for the lines, and on the ...
